Dongba Festival 14 April 2013

This annual festival held on the 5th day of the 3rd lunar month takes place at the Jade Water Village 玉水寨, a showcase of Naxi indigenous Dongba religion and culture at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain where a sacred spring emerges. Expect to see and hear Dongba shamans chanting sutras, holding sacrificial ceremonies for Dongbashenluo-the founder of the Dongba Religion and dancing!

The most important festival for the dominant Naxi minority, the Sanduo Festival is held annually on the 8th day of the 2nd lunar month to celebrate the local protective deity Sanduo. Lijiang bursts into celebration in the form of rituals, dancing, feasting and animal sacrifices.
