The Torch festival originated with the Yi people, and has since spread to other ethnic groups such as the Naxi and Bai, who all celebrate the Torch Festival around the 24th day of the sixth month of the traditional Lunar calendar.
During this festival, we will travel up to a remote Yi village for the 1st day (and stay overnight there at a homestay, joining a family for dinner, dancing and making of torches). Celebrations will carry on around the towns of Shuhe and Baisha for the subsequent 2 nights. You will have a chance to join the Bivou team in making our own giant Bivou torch!
